By car
The quickest and most flexible way to get from Bozeman to Whitefish is by car. The journey generally takes between 3 and 3.5 hours, depending on traffic and weather conditions. Here's the route to follow:
- Take I-90 West from Bozeman.
- Continue on I-90 West to the town of Missoula.
- In Missoula, take exit US-93 North towards Kalispell.
- Follow US-93 North to Whitefish.

This route offers magnificent views of the mountains and valleys of western Montana, including nearby Glacier National Park. It's a pleasant drive, but can vary according to weather conditions, especially in winter.
By bus
Another option is to take a bus, although it usually takes a little longer than driving. Several companies, such as Greyhound, operate between Bozeman and Whitefish. The bus journey can take between 4 and 5 hours, with stops along the way, usually in Missoula. Buses leave from the central station in Bozeman and arrive at a stop in Whitefish.
This is a slower option, but it allows you to relax and avoid driving, especially for travelers without a car.
By train
A scenic but less frequent option is to take a train. Amtrak offers routes from Bozeman to Whitefish, although these services are not as frequent as buses or cars. The train journey is longer, taking around 5 to 6 hours, but offers a unique experience for enjoying the scenery.
By cab or car-sharing service
If you prefer fast, private transportation, taking a cab or a ride-sharing service like Uber or Lyft is an option. However, it will be considerably more expensive, with costs that can exceed $200, depending on demand and local conditions. The journey takes around 3.5 hours, as does the car.
